Beyonce flew solo at the Met Gala last night. And by “solo” I mean without Jay-Z, because I’m pretty sure Bey had some stylists and feather-fluffers around her. Beyonce wore this feathered Givenchy MESS. I know I said Sofia was one of the worst looks (and she was), but can we all agree that Beyonce was probably THE worst of the evening? OMG. I can’t even believe what I’m seeing, that’s how bad it is. I feel like I’m hallucinating. And just think… last year, Beyonce tried to do the “show-stopping” look of the night too – remember her vinyl dress which was so tight, she couldn’t even move? Think about that timeline too… Beyonce was “pregnant” at last year’s Met Gala. And now, just a few months after “giving birth,” Beyonce is at the gala once again, flashing all of her bits and pieces.
Shall we really go through all of the parts of this dress which are made of hideousness? Here’s an honest question: if you took off the purple feathers, would you like this dress more? Obviously, the purple feathers are a fug bridge too far, but even without them, I would hate this look. It’s too sheer, especially from behind. The sleeves and the bodice look too lingerie-y. And the lining throughout the bodice just looks cheap and swimsuit-y, like it was added as an afterthought.
Two more things: the dress has built-in gloves. Is that what it’s called? The sleeves are gloves. Sleeve-gloves. The effect is cheap. Second thing: I really dislike Beyonce’s blonde ponytail. I feel like it’s the same hairstyle Gwyneth Paltrow did for the Oscars.

This dress was either made for someone else, or Bey put on some weight since the fitting. The fabric bunching up all over the place is really disconcerting. Also, you make sure you have all this ‘glue gun project explosion’ on the front, to cover your crotch, but you leave the sides and back sheer, so your butt and thighs are clearly on display? I’m sorry but this is not a stage in some seedy, cigarette smoke filled bar where this might be concidered sexy. Here it looks tacky, classless and cheap. Plus her thighs are MASSIVE! Cover them up, woman, they are not sexy at all. They look scary.

Personally I am a black european and in my country the majority of my generation were children from ambassadors or international officials or doctors or engeeners because the condition for our parents to come was either be an ambassadors, either entering and finishing college with a BA at the very least, usually in law, sciences or engeenering.
So usually the perceoption was that we were mostly based in the posh international area and going yo international or posh schools.
I know that ther are not just black people living in the ghetto, just like you also find some white folks in brasilian favellas, just like not only blacks live in the french ‘cités…just like not only poor white people live in trailer trash parks.
It’s just a generalization and perception describing those fourth world parts in each western countries with a specific name attached to a specific group whose perception wise are more representative in those fourth world part, not to mention the fact that they participate in the popularization of those words when they create terms like ‘ghetto fab’, popularizing songs where they glamourize ways to talk, to dress, to live the ghetto way helping the perception to live on…

@ Sisi – I agree with you that the layer underneath is too light. It looks almost white in some pics. It should have been dark black like the beads & darker than the lace in order to show off that part of the dress. Even so, the horizontal patterns of the beads & lace makes it look like it’s an exoskeleton.
And the purple feathers make no sense with that dress.
Her hair and make up is really beautiful. the dress is terrible. I’m kind of over the constant need to add BLUE to everything or sort of blue in this case.

1. Her hair was in a proper chignon. That ponytail does not work with this dress.

3. The leotard actually matched her skin tone. the fact that its so many shades off makes me wonder about the way Bey sees herself.

A full lining underneath would kill the look too. Where would you begin and end it? Unless you’re gonna line the gloves too. Plus it looks like she’s got spanx on underneath it. (I’ve staring a long time lol)The dress is covered in all the right places where it would not be graphic if there was no bodice. But you need to be tight to wear this and she no longer has the body for it. That’s the only way I think this would work.
Ultimately, I think this dress is dated. This look has been done before many times over.

I hated the dress, as for her being pregnant last year. Blue was born in February, right (or was it January?), either way if Beyonce was pregnant yet it would be newly so, might not have even known it. And yes I believe she had that baby, I had such a strange pregnancy (including a shrinking pregnancy), I don’t feel like I can judge anyone else.
If the bodysuit under it was darker, it would look nice. I’d rather see this than the boring stuff many of the women wore. What most of you don’t realize about the Met Ball is that the fashion is “supposed” to be costume or theme oriented, not run of the mill.

I’m going to have to defend the Givenchy dress a little bit, and here’s why.
The sheer dress on top with the jewels is clearly going for a skeletal theme. You can see the rib cage on Bey’s chest and the hip bones on her thighs. It’s the same idea on her back, too, with the rib cage and pelvis. On the arms she has also a type of “bone structure”, which extends to her hands and fingers (hence the gloves). The dress actually reminds me a lot of the Alien movies.
However the part where Beyoncé is going completely off the rails if the bodice with the lace print, which I dont think was originally meant to be there. It doesn’t make any sense. She also added extra lace directly on her arms and thigs, underneath the skeleton dress. This results in many different shades of black, which is enough to create a very messy overall look.
So this is my point with the dress: Beyoncé and her team added the lace-theme on their own. It’s pretty obvious that the lace does nothing for the original theme of the dress, so I’m guessing there’s supposed to be something COMPLETELY different worn underneath the sheer dress. Something very solid in colour would be my guess.
Considering this black skeletal theme, the feathers kind of make sense and are kind of cool. However Beyoncé, with her nonexisting taste, decided to bring the an otherwise pretty dress down to her level.

I caanot agree with most of these comments. I don’t really follow Beyonce and just saw her wearing this dress in the paper. I think it’s fabulous! so sexy and really shows off her figure. It’s clearly making a statement, but I’m almost certain that would have been the idea at an event like this. And you wouldn’t wear it to go to Church….but I think she looks great in it.
